New Equipment Reaches Tartus
A vessel loaded with modern logistics equipment for Dubai's DP World docked at Syria's Tartus port on 1 July 2026. The delivery is intended to develop the Mediterranean facility's infrastructure, raise its operational efficiency and strengthen its capacity to absorb growing trade traffic.
Port officials described the shipment as one of the most prominent results so far of a partnership between the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and Customs and DP World.
A 125-Ton Crane
The consignment's centerpiece is a German-built Konecranes Gottwald crane with a lifting capacity of 125 tons, a height of about 50 meters and a jib extending 51 meters. Engineering officials at the port said the machine ranks among the advanced equipment capable of carrying out a range of logistics operations on site.
The shipment also included specialized attachments, chief among them a spreader for handling containers, along with two grabs for bulk cargo with capacities of 24 and 44 cubic meters.
First of Three Cranes
Officials said the new crane can handle both containers and bulk cargo with high efficiency, improving the speed of operations and adding flexibility to the port's work. Management expects to receive two additional cranes of the same model within the next two months.
Wider Rehabilitation Program
The delivery marks the beginning of an integrated program to rehabilitate Tartus port by replacing old and worn machinery with modern equipment that meets the requirements of international ports, officials said.
They framed the upgrade as a step toward accelerating the loading and unloading of ships, which they expect to lift productivity and improve efficiency inside the facility.
Rising Trade Traffic
The equipment arrives as Tartus handles increasing commercial activity, adding pressure to modernize its operating base and expand throughput. Officials said the improvements are meant to reinforce the port's standing as a principal hub for trade and maritime transport in Syria.
