Grain Haul Nears a Milestone
Wheat reception centers in Al-Hasakah province are closing in on one million tons of grain as this season's procurement drive reaches its peak. The northeastern province is the country's most important wheat basket, and the volume signals a substantial harvest moving into state hands.
Only 21 of the province's reception centers are currently operating, at roughly half of their combined capacity, according to the head of the central committee overseeing wheat marketing, Abdel Wahab al-Saffar.
Ar-Raqqa Adds to the Tally
In neighboring Ar-Raqqa, a grain reception center in the east of the province has taken delivery of about 31,000 tons since the marketing season opened in June 2026. More than 25,000 tons of that total was classified as soft wheat.
Officials described the intake as proceeding without disruption, with deliveries registered through the government's official platform and no reported obstacles for farmers bringing in their crops.
Payments Through the Agricultural Bank
The first batch of purchase invoices has been forwarded to the Agricultural Bank for settlement, with payments to farmers scheduled across three installments to speed up processing. Accountants and auditors at the centers were instructed to finalize shipment records so that transfers can proceed.
How the Centers Operate
Reception points are taking in grain daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Farmers were supplied with burlap sacks ahead of delivery, part of an effort to keep the flow of crop into the silos steady during the busiest weeks of the season.
Why the Harvest Counts
Wheat sits at the center of the country's food supply, feeding the subsidized bread that households rely on. A large state procurement season channels payments to growers and underpins the bread supply, making the pace of deliveries a closely watched marker of the farming economy.
