Aleppo Airport Logs 24,854 Passengers in April as 12 Airlines Resume

Aleppo International Airport handled 24,854 travelers and 264 flights from seven airlines in April 2026, while Syrian airspace recorded 2,523 aircraft transits and twelve international carriers resumed routes into Syria.

Spring Traffic Surge at Aleppo International

Aleppo International Airport handled 24,854 passengers during April 2026, broken down into 12,214 arrivals and 12,640 departures, according to figures released by Syria's General Authority of Civil Aviation. Seven airlines operated 264 flights to and from the terminal over the month.

The Authority described the data as evidence of "active movement" and a continuing recovery of civilian air traffic at the northern hub. Dividing total passengers by total flights gives an average load of roughly 94 travellers per movement, indicating that returning routes are being filled rather than running half-empty.

Airspace Returns to Service

Beyond Aleppo's terminal, Syrian airspace as a whole logged 2,523 aircraft transits during April. The figure captures scheduled domestic and international flights together with overflights by carriers using Syrian air corridors.

Higher transit volumes generate air-navigation fee receipts collected by the civil aviation regulator, providing a small recurring revenue stream for the public sector.

International Carriers Coming Back

The Authority said 12 international airlines have resumed flights into Syrian airports during the current recovery phase. The expanded carrier base broadens the network of destinations available from Syrian airports and adds seat capacity on regional routes.

Each new entrant also adds competitive pressure on ticket prices on regional sectors.

Service Quality Tracking

The Authority reported 31 passenger complaints filed during April, of which nine had been resolved by the end of the month. Officials linked the complaint-tracking system to a wider effort to upgrade ground services and align Aleppo with international civil aviation benchmarks.

Publishing operational metrics alongside traffic counts also signals an attempt to formalise a quality framework as more carriers consider committing to permanent route schedules from the airport.
