Syrian Post to Launch International Money Transfers by Year-End

•SP Today News Desk

Syria's postal service plans to offer international money transfers at all its branches before the end of 2026, working with the central bank, while reopening post offices across the country's north.

A New Transfer Channel

The Syrian Post Establishment plans to launch international money transfer services at all of its offices before the end of 2026, in coordination with the Central Bank of Syria. The step was announced on 27 October 2026 by the establishment's director general.

The service would give residents a formal, state-run route for sending and receiving money across borders. It would sit alongside the domestic instant transfers that post offices already handle, and officials presented it as a core part of the network's reactivation.

Return to the Postal Union

The establishment said it had regained its membership in the Universal Postal Union, describing the move as a prerequisite for restoring international parcel service. Officials said two formal visits to Turkey had been made as part of efforts to reconnect cross-border postal links.

Offices Reopen in the North

The post is taking over the remaining centers in northern Syria and reopening offices in areas where a Turkish operator had run postal services since October 2017, when the first such center opened in Jarablus. Temporary offices have opened in towns including Ras al-Ain, Tal Abyad, Jarablus, al-Bab, A'zaz, Afrin and Jindires while formal handover procedures are completed.

Services on Offer

Reopened branches are to provide domestic instant transfers, the sending and receiving of parcels, home delivery of salaries, and the issuing of government documents. Those documents include criminal-record extracts and certificates of non-conviction and non-employment.

The establishment said restored offices would offer the same menu of services available elsewhere in the country.

A Year-End Timeline

The establishment framed the measures as part of a broader effort to provide uniform postal and financial services across the country. It said the international transfer service was targeted for launch at all offices before the end of 2026, but did not announce a specific starting date or set figures for expected transfer volumes.
