Half-Year Water Output
Syria's water sector produced 558 million cubic meters of drinking water during the first half of 2026 and extended services to more than 15 million people, according to figures released on 7 August 2026. The work spanned rehabilitation and expansion projects across the provinces, part of a wider drive to shore up water security after years of strain on infrastructure. The half-year tally, covering January through June 2026, sets a baseline against which the sector's second-half performance will be measured.
Wells and Stations
The reported works included drilling 189 new wells and rehabilitating 398 older ones, along with the overhaul of 100 pumping and treatment stations. Crews maintained or repaired 3,420 water pumps over the period, targeting the equipment that keeps supply flowing to homes and farms.
Power and Networks
With electricity supply still uneven, the sector installed 167 solar power systems and maintained or installed 480 generator sets to keep pumping stations running. It also carried out or rehabilitated more than 10,000 kilometers of water networks, the arteries that lose the most to leaks and aging pipes.
Sewage and Enforcement
On the sanitation side, 16 sewage treatment stations were built and more than 2,686 kilometers of sewage lines were laid, with over 50,000 repairs completed. Authorities said 14,643 encroachments on water networks were removed, a step framed as protecting supply from illegal tapping and losses.
Twenty-seven supply lines were exempted from rationing to ensure continuous pumping across the provinces, an acknowledgment that scheduled cuts remain part of daily water management.

The public body responsible for drinking water and sanitation said it is intensifying efforts to rehabilitate and replace networks, pumping stations and sewage lines. The stated aim is steadier service and a continuous water supply for residents in the months ahead, with the reported figures presented as evidence of sustained work rather than one-off projects.
