Partnership Launched in Damascus
A Syrian-Qatari investment partnership was launched on 6 September 2026 at a ceremony held at the Ebla Cham Hotel in the Damascus countryside (Rif Dimashq). The agreement brings together Glory Holding Group, a Syrian company, and Tamim Holding Group of Qatar, with the stated aim of pursuing joint projects across several sectors of the Syrian economy.
The event introduced a slate of future joint projects and was attended by officials from the Syrian Investment Authority alongside the leadership of both companies. The two sides presented the arrangement as a framework for continuing cooperation rather than a single transaction.
Sectors Targeted for Investment
The chairman of Tamim Holding Group, Sheikh Nayef bin Eid Al Thani, identified real estate, industry, agriculture, energy, and technology as the priority areas for the partnership's work. He linked the projects to local employment and to the participation of Syrian suppliers, presenting domestic hiring and sourcing as part of the intended benefit rather than an afterthought.
No financial figures or specific project timelines were disclosed at the launch, leaving the scale of the planned investment undefined for now.
Reconstruction Framed as Opportunity
Ahmad Riyad Ramadan, director general of the Syrian Investment Authority, described the country's reconstruction phase as opening what he called significant opportunities across various sectors. He said the authority was working to build a clear and rapid investment environment.
That environment, he added, is meant to offer defined pathways guiding investors from the initial idea through to implementation, a message aimed at reducing the friction that has long deterred capital from entering the country.
A Signal to Foreign Capital
The chairwoman of Glory Holding Group, Majd Sharbaji, framed the partnership as extending beyond commercial interests, describing it as reflecting political and humanitarian support for Syria through its difficult years. "Investment in Syria is investment in the Syrian people and the country's future," she said.
The Syrian pound (SYP) was broadly stable against the US dollar (USD) on 6 September 2026. Announcements of foreign investment interest are watched closely as indicators of confidence in the economy, though their effect on the currency depends on whether such commitments translate into actual capital inflows.
