Service Restored Today
The Syrian Post Institution resumed inter-governorate parcel and goods delivery on Sunday, 24 May 2026, ending a service halt of more than a decade. Director General Emad al-Din Hamad said the relaunched network will route domestic parcels weighing up to 30 kilograms between Syria's provinces under what he described as a faster and more secure handling system.
The move is the first nationwide restart of the internal parcel chain since the institution suspended cross-province transfers more than ten years ago.
Phased Network Rollout
The first phase operates from the central halls inside each governorate's postal directorate, and later phases will extend the service to district centers and smaller branch offices across the country. Hamad described the staged approach as part of an effort to reconnect Syria's domestic postal grid and revive its role in linking the provinces.
Weight Cap and Tariffs
Each domestic parcel is capped at 30 kilograms, a ceiling set to standardize handling at the central halls during the first phase. The director general said tariffs have been set at studied rates aimed at ordinary citizens, though specific per-kilogram fees were not disclosed at the launch.
The institution presented the relaunched service as offering a faster and more dependable procedure for sending and receiving parcels inside the country than the process available before the suspension.
International Parcels Next
Hamad said the institution is also completing the technical and logistical preparations needed to reopen outbound and inbound international parcel service, and to open new postal exchange channels with neighboring countries. He did not give a target date for the international relaunch, describing that track as ongoing work.
Closing a Decade-Long Gap
The cross-province parcel service had been dormant for more than ten years before this relaunch. The restart places the state postal operator back into a domestic logistics role that it had not performed since the suspension began, resuming a daily-use service that residents and businesses lacked through the state postal channel during the gap.
