SP Today News Desk

Energy officials from Syria, Jordan and Lebanon held a video meeting on 25 April 2026 to finalize timelines for trial pumping along the Arab Gas Pipeline supplying Lebanon.

Trilateral Video Meeting

Energy ministry representatives from Syria, Jordan and Lebanon held a video conference on 25 April 2026 to discuss the executive steps required to reactivate the Arab Gas Pipeline, with the aim of supplying Lebanon with part of its energy needs.

The technical session focused on finalizing timelines for the start of trial pumping operations, framed as an acceleration of the regional project.

Network Readiness

Ghiyath Diab, deputy energy minister for oil affairs, said the section of the pipeline running through Syrian territory has reached the highest state of readiness after the completion of all technical tests along the route, which extends from the Syrian-Jordanian border to the Lebanese border.

He described Syria as continuing to play its role as a safe and stable corridor for energy in the region.

Strategic Importance

Diab characterized the project as strategically significant, saying it would form a vital corridor for energy transit and reinforce economic cooperation among the three countries. He emphasized Syria's continuing role as a safe and stable energy corridor in the region.

The trilateral meeting did not publicly disclose volumes, pricing or financing arrangements for the restart.

Currency Backdrop

The Syrian pound (SYP) traded near 13,200 to the US dollar (USD) on 25 April 2026, broadly flat on the day. Cross-border energy infrastructure projects are watched in Damascus for their implications on external receipts and the broader trade balance.

Next Steps

The next phase, according to officials, is the launch of trial pumping along the Syrian section once final scheduling is agreed by the three sides. No firm date for first commercial flow was announced after the meeting.
