New Fuel Prices Take Effect
Syria's Permanent Committee for Pricing Petroleum Products and Mineral Resources announced a reduction in the prices of refined fuels, with the new rates taking effect at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 28 July 2026. The committee said it lowered the prices in step with a decline in global oil prices.
The decision covers the main fuels used by households, drivers, and industry, and applies from the effective date set in the committee's bulletin.
What the New List Sets
Under the new bulletin, octane-95 gasoline was set at 147 Syrian pounds (SYP) and octane-90 gasoline at 142 pounds. Diesel, known locally as mazout, was set at 120 pounds.
The committee also adjusted gas prices, setting domestic cooking gas at 1,470 pounds and industrial gas at 2,350 pounds. The bulletin listed the new figures without publishing the previous prices for comparison.
Tracking Global Oil
The committee tied the reduction directly to falling international crude prices, presenting the change as an adjustment that keeps domestic rates aligned with global markets rather than a one-off subsidy decision.
A Periodic Review Approach
The body had said on 26 June that its updated price bulletins form part of an institutional method built on periodic review, drawing on refreshed economic and technical indicators.
It framed the approach as a way to keep pace with continuous market change while balancing a steady supply of petroleum products against the interests of citizens and the national economy.
Weight on Household Costs
Fuel and cooking gas prices feed directly into transport, food, and household energy costs. Lower official rates for diesel and gas reduce pressure on those costs, although the committee's bulletins remain open to revision at its next review.
