Syrian Central Bank Opens Online Booking for Old-Currency Withdrawals

The Central Bank of Syria began accepting online appointment requests on 13 August 2026 for citizens to exchange old banknotes for the new pound, with values credited to bank accounts free of any fees. Direct withdrawal continues across all provinces.

Online Requests Open

The Central Bank of Syria announced on Thursday, 13 August 2026, that it had begun accepting electronic requests from citizens seeking to withdraw old banknotes and receive their value in the new Syrian pound (SYP). The step adds a digital appointment channel to a withdrawal process that also continues in person across the country.

Direct withdrawal remains available in all provinces through the outlets of the Syrian Post, the bank said, urging holders of old notes to register and reserve a slot through a dedicated online link. The process lets citizens convert notes being taken out of circulation into the currency now in use.

How Appointments Work

The dedicated website lets an applicant request an advance appointment, with the date and time sent by text message (SMS) to the phone number entered in the request once slots become available. Applicants are notified only when a time opens up.

At the scheduled appointment, the applicant submits the required documents and data and hands over the old currency at the bank branch chosen when the request was filed.

No Fees on the Exchange

Once the withdrawal is completed, the due amount in the new Syrian pound (SYP) is transferred to a bank account the applicant designates at a bank where they hold an account. The transfer is made without any commissions, fees, taxes, or other expenses.

Who Can Apply

Eligibility is limited to natural persons — Syrian citizens and those treated as such — and does not extend to legal entities such as companies.

Requests are not tied to a fixed number of banknotes or to particular denominations, allowing holders to submit whatever old currency they possess in a single application.

Northeastern Provinces

In Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Hasaka, old notes continue to be withdrawn directly through bank branches and approved Syrian Post outlets. Residents of those provinces may also file their withdrawal requests through the online platform under the approved procedures.
