Second Phase Inaugurated
Syria inaugurated the second phase of the Arab Gas Line together with a rehabilitated training center at the central-region field management site near Homs on 29 September 2026. The state petroleum company oversaw the ceremony, which marked completion of a new segment of the domestic gas transport network.
Those attending included Homs governor Morhaf al-Nasan, the petroleum company's chief executive Youssef Qabawi, and the deputy chief executive for the gas sector, Hisham al-Saleh.
New Capacity and Route
The second phase adds 186 kilometers of pipeline to the existing 380 kilometers, extending the line to roughly 566 kilometers. The expanded network is designed to move about 11 million cubic meters of gas per day and to hold some 8 million cubic meters in storage.
Three compressor units were installed in the Furqlus area to maintain pressure and keep gas flowing along the extended route toward the central region.
Training Center Reopens
Alongside the pipeline work, a national training center reopened after a closure of about 12 years. The rehabilitated facility, overseen by director Hussam Mansour, includes ten lecture halls and practical workshops.
The center is set to run programs preparing new graduates and specialists for technical work in the gas sector, building the workforce needed to operate and maintain the network.
Regional Gas Links
The Arab Gas Line ties Syria's grid into a wider network that connects to Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Restoring and expanding domestic segments is a step toward stabilizing internal supply and reviving cross-border energy links.
Central Region Supply
The added daily throughput of 11 million cubic meters expands the volume the line can carry toward power generation and industrial users tied to the central region. Officials framed the works as part of efforts to rehabilitate field management and gas infrastructure.
Together with the storage of some 8 million cubic meters, the upgraded line gives operators more room to manage supply across the network.
