Housing Authority Signs Contract to Build 500-Unit Royal City Near Damascus

Syria's General Housing Authority signed a contract on 25 August 2026 to build Royal City, a 500-unit smart residential development in Sabboura, about 20 kilometers from Damascus.

Contract Signed for Royal City

Syria's General Housing Authority signed a contract on 25 August 2026 with a contracting and construction firm to build Royal City, a planned residential development in the Sabboura area of Rural Damascus, roughly 20 kilometers from the capital.

The agreement covers execution of the project, which is described as a smart residential community combining housing with commercial, service and recreational facilities.

Five Hundred Homes Planned

The development is designed to deliver 500 residential units across three housing models of varying sizes. Plans include a commercial center at the project entrance and a combined service and recreational center at its heart.

The site layout sets aside green spaces and gardens throughout, alongside a network of primary and secondary roads and educational facilities intended to serve future residents.

Smart Systems and Green Design

Project specifications call for smart energy management, water recycling and waste management systems, according to the signed plans. The design is meant to follow green architecture standards and criteria for sustainable development.

The emphasis on efficient resource use reflects a broader focus on modern urban planning in new housing schemes around the capital.

A Step in Reconstruction

The contract adds to a growing pipeline of construction activity in Rural Damascus as the country works to expand its housing stock. A per-unit cost and a total project value were not disclosed at signing.

The development was framed as an effort to blend housing supply, quality of life and sustainability in a single planned community near Damascus.
