Al-Tanf Crossing Logs 65,000 Fuel Tankers Since April Reopening

The Al-Tanf border crossing with Iraq has handled 65,000 fuel tankers and 10,000 trucks moving some 329,000 tons of goods since it reopened in early April 2026.

Crossing Back in Service

The Al-Tanf border crossing between Syria and Iraq has recorded steady transit traffic since it returned to service in early April 2026. The land route has become an active corridor for fuel shipments and commercial freight moving between the two countries.

The Numbers Since April

From the reopening in early April through the end of July 2026, the crossing logged 65,000 fuel tankers and 10,000 trucks. Together they carried roughly 329,000 tons of goods across the frontier.

The figures were released by the General Authority for Borders and Customs, which described a growing volume of land shipping and transit movement over the period.

A Corridor to Iraq

Al-Tanf sits on the desert route linking Syria with Iraq and, beyond it, other neighboring markets. Officials frame the crossing as a link supporting the transport and logistics sectors and regional trade flows.

Fuel and Freight Split

The bulk of the recorded traffic was fuel tankers, at 65,000 crossings, alongside 10,000 trucks carrying general cargo. The mix points to energy shipments as the crossing's dominant early function since reopening.

Weight for the Economy

Cross-border fuel and freight movement bears directly on Syria's supply of energy products and imported goods. Sustained traffic through the crossing adds capacity to the trade routes that feed the domestic market and the transport sector.
